Butterlamps Prayers

Chanting, butterlamp offerings &  prayers.

Sundays
9 a.m.

The offering of Butterlamps is a very auspicious and meritorious event.

In general, making offerings is an extremely important method for the practitioner to accumulate merit. The attainment of the state of enlightenment occurs when we have brought to full perfection our accumulation of merit. In particular, the method of offering bowls of saffron water is an excellent way of accumulating merit because it is an act of generosity in which you have no greed. You don’t have any particular attachment to the water, so it is a way to offer that which we have no concept of possessing. It is also excellent to offer the butterlamps, candles or light because this act of offering this light symbolizes burning away our mental afflictions of desire, aggression, greed, jealousy, pride and so forth.

If you are just doing something ordinary but you have a lot of support, you have a lot of people behind you, you have a lot of money, you have power behind you, it is easier to accomplish your aims. It is the same thing to rely on an authentic lineage. That is the support we need to bring our practice to fruition.

with Wei Lin

Sundays
2 p.m.

Taught in the Shrine Room or Garden of Merit.
$20 payable to Wei Lin.

Wei was first introduced to yoga in early 2000 as a way to keep fit, physically and mentally, for his busy schedule as a massage therapist. From his very first classes with Yogis Bonnie Quiceno and Peter Barber, he was hooked! Since then, Wei practiced yoga on and off for about 14 years with different teachers in different styles such as Anusara, Ashtanga, Hot yoga, Kundalini, Sivananda, Iyengar, and Vinyasa. Having practiced in various different forms, he came to realize that all forms of yoga have the spirituality aspect in common. In 2014, he decided to go deeper into his study by taking an intensive yoga teacher training and became a certified Vinyasa yoga teacher.

“Yoga has brought me much balance, strength, knowledge, wisdom, peace, happiness, and love. And I wish it will do the same for you.”

About The Venerable Lama Karma Chotso

The Jewish Secret and The Dalai Lama
Oct 16 @ 7:30 pm

THE ‘JEWISH SECRET’ AND THE DALAI LAMA
Nathan Katz

7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening – October 16th

As the spiritual and temporal leader of a people who were defeated by Communist China nearly 60 years ago, the Dalai Lama wanted to learn the “Jewish Secret” for surviving in exile.

After all, he reasoned, the Jews had the expertise: 1,900 years of living in the Diaspora, all the while preserving their distinct religion. Surely the Tibetan people could benefit from Jewish experience, he reasoned.

Hear a first-hand account of this remarkable dialogue, one that spurred both Tibetans and Jews to understand not only one another, but themselves as well.

The sacred practice of Chenrezig was favored by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche as most beneficial to western students. Yidam practice in general is one of the most powerful Vajrayana methods for achieving enlightenment.

The practice of Chenrezig is required daily of all dharma path students and is highly recommended as an essential practice for all dharma students that have received the empowerment.
